In with a bang, out with a whimper could summarize May for me in general. I had some really good weeks of hitting my numbers, along with two races and some really good effort rides. The past couple weeks I’ve been missing something, that something being some motivation. I’m not sure if it’s because I’m not registered for any other races coming up, or if I’m just tired.
The week before the Sterling race was actually a rest/transition week, so you’d think I had gotten a bit of rest from cycling, but in general this whole month has been busy. I’m not sure I can think of a weekend where I wasn’t either racing or out and about doing other things. My staycation in the first week of July cannot come soon enough. While I won’t be going anywhere, I at least will have most of the week to tool around on the bike.
Currently I’m down for the count due to pulling my back again (this time horsing around with a couple of puppies, oi), but it’s at least a rest week. My legs are itching to ride, but my head hasn’t been in it. I did commute once a week the past couple weeks, but after bringing up my other car from CT I really haven’t ridden at all. (hmm, conflicting hobbies?)
What hasn’t helped is the lack of decent weather around these parts. It’s been either raining, drizzling or threatening to rain for a couple of weeks. The days I commuted to work were the only nice days, really.
- Total Mileage: 304.85 miles
- Planned Hours: 27.58 hours
- Total Hours: 23.87 hours
Here are the race reports from May:
Coming up this month is this week’s rest week, then a week of easier riding and for the last two weeks getting in some good efforts, such as time trials. I’m hoping that the shop gets the TT sorted out, as it’s one of my goals this year.
May’s takeaways: Two weeks of personally great riding followed up by two weeks of barely riding (though when I do I ride well) means I’m in a rut at the moment. Granted right now I can’t ride, but even if I could I just feel like doing everything else except hop on the bike. I’m hoping this changes this weekend when I have time to ride again.
How was your May?
