This morning’s men’s Olympic road race was a bit of a let down. I was really hoping that Cav would take it in a sprint, or one of the American boys (Tejay or Taylor) would take it in the breakaway. We came pretty close, with Taylor Phinney coming in 4th, but you could tell he was disappointed at the finish. Instead, Vino won the gold, with Uran in 2nd and some other dude Kristoff in 3rd.
It was a hell of a race though. Great Britain led the peloton just about the entire way, chasing down breaks, until they could go no more. Germany helped out a bit, as well the Aussies, but with 30+ guys out front in the break the peloton never saw them again. The worst bit was watching Spartacus crash while leading the group, which means his chance at a gold was over, and his chance to defend his time trial gold on Wednesday is up in the air. Really hoping he didn’t break anything.
What I’m looking forward to tomorrow is the women’s road race. I’ve never watched a women’s race on TV, so it’ll be a difference experience. While Vos is the undisputed favorite to win, I’m pulling for Ms. Stevens, who only started racing four years ago. Yes she’s crazy fast and dedicated and was able to afford to leave her job to become a pro cyclist, but it gives me hope anyway
What are your predictions for the women’s race tomorrow and the time trials on Wednesday? What are your thoughts of the race today?

You summed up the Men’s race well. It was tough to see Spartacus go down like that. I can’t believe he was the only one…lucky for the rest. Phinney had a great shot at the bronze but just lost out. He was really pissed. Wow, he will be awesome in the future.
I still can’t believe that Vino won. Twitter folks had mixed emotions. Some were flat out pissed and others didn’t know how to take it. I’m on the fence…not exactly happy he won but not losing sleep either. I was pulling for a Cav sprint, like you, or an American from the breakaway.
I’m looking forward to the TT on Wed. We’ll see what happens. I didn’t get to see all of the Women’s race.
