Ok, so now that the bike is built and has been ridden for a bit, I figure it’s about time I lay out what went into it. Here are the components and pricing for the bike.
As you can see, the total build was under $800. This doesn’t include some incidentals, like cables, housing and bar tape, but it is all of the necessary parts. I’m really happy with how the bike came out, and I’m proud of the fact that I built it myself. The bike fits me well and handles great. Having never ridden a ‘cross bike before, it was a bit of getting used to on the lower pressure tires, but compared with a mountain bike it is quick and nimble.
If you’re interested in reading up on the build process, see these posts:
- Early update on the bike, with the wrong everything.
- Part 2, in which I’m still using the wrong everything.
- I finally get the right parts, and Sara talks about her ‘cross races.
- It’s almost done! Plus a puppy.

So, what do you think?
