So last night it snowed a bunch, which is totally the opposite of anything that happened last winter. Ryan and I and others went to see The Hobbit, which is getting dragged out for the next 3 years into a trilogy, and on our way back hit up the REI so I could get fenders, for my ride this morning. Ryan Kelly of internet fame was doing a snow ride out of Beverly, and decided that this slowass of a biker could tag along. Russ picked me and the cross bike up this morning and chauffeured me to Atomic Cafe to meet up with Ryan K and Paul B, himself wussing out of the ride. I dunno, it was cold or something?
We enjoyed some coffee and headed out for a ride, leaving Russ to fend for himself in a coffee shop, how horrible. Ryan and Paul started out at slow-for-them-speed which was really slightly-too-fast-for-me speed, then slowed down even more so I could ride and breathe at the same time. Paul pulled off to head home and Ryan and I headed up 1A to Ipswich as our first destination, which turned out to be my final destination. Russ came and rescued me from there and thankfully gave me a lift home. Thanks Russ!
Here’s my list of excuses for stopping my ride after only 10 miles: my toes were freezing, my bike was acting up, the sound of the fenders rubbing on the tires the entire time was driving me nuts, I wanted more coffee. I think that covers it all. Needless to say I found another coffee shop and let Ryan continue on his ride without going slow as molasses.
As far as the bike, I’m going to go ahead and blame the brakes for the steering wonkiness. I’m just noticing that it’s difficult as hell to stay in a straight line, hence, in the video below, I was wandering all over the place. Guys, I swear I can ride in a straight line normally. Ryan and Paul must have thought I was a complete noob. Right, the brakes. They’re an older style design and can’t really be adjusted correctly. So, I’m on the lookout for BB7s. Anyone have a set they’re looking to get rid of?
So anyway, here are some photos that Russ took, as well as some boring video of the ride. You’re welcome for taking out the regular sound, since it sounded like a bee’s nest from the rubbing fenders. The vid is from my new GoPro, which I mounted, kinda, by modding an old handlebar tripod mount I had. I’m planning on getting a K-Edge GoPro mount, but I’m hoping they drop in price at some point.

Is that a “(I am not) Ted King” neck gaiter you’re sporting in that group photo? (I have one too, and love it!)
Indeed! If you look closely Ryan K has one too. Love it.
